Maternal love: comforting, boundless and complete. It’s a bond to celebrate, whether it’s for your actual mum, step mum, mother-in-law, a friend who’s just become one, an adoptive auntie, or (drop the selflessness for a moment), yourself! All that our mother figures do for others day-in, day-out, for zero in return. Just becasue they’re damn good people. So for me, Mother’s Day is about letting them know how loved and appreciated they are. Period.
Of course the obvious choice for mums on Mother’s Day is a stunning big bunch of flowers, but for some of you this won’t be a viable option. For me personally, my mum is a florist, and so gifting flowers isn’t on the agenda for me this year. Additionally, if your mama suffers from bastard hayfever, she may not enjoy a house full of pollen come the 14th March. That being said, I’ve still incorporated a floral thread through this week’s gift guide, as well as my fave colours to inject spring into 2021.
I wanted to curate a Mother’s Day gift guide to help those who are lacking inspiration or those simply short on time. Initially I was going to offer ideas for different types of mums – those new to parenthood, mums who enjoy travelling, or those who keep up-to-date with the latest trends. However, it led me down an uncomfortable path that strayed a little too near to female sterotypes for my liking. And so I give you a bevy of fun and thoughtful gifts – but not just for your mum. Let’s celebrate our sisterhoods, grandmothers or friends who do a great job and deserve a treat too. If you’re after something tipple-based then head to my recent blog post here on the best cocktail deliveries money can buy right now.
If you don’t know by now, the general vibe here is one of independents, small businesses, alternative and off the beaten path. Sometimes I’ll throw in a wildcard big brand, but thats because sometimes there is nothing better. Enjoy.
